About Grand Traverse Insulation

Northern Michigan Experience. A Better Way to Solve Comfort Problems.

Grand Traverse Insulation helps homeowners and property owners understand what is happening inside their building before recommending insulation, air sealing, spray foam or crawl space encapsulation.

Our work is built around a simple idea: the right solution starts with finding the problem. That means looking beyond symptoms like drafts, cold rooms, high energy bills, ice dams or moisture and understanding the building conditions behind them.

Grand Traverse Insulation is part of GeoFurnace Heating & Cooling, serving Northern Michigan with roots that go back decades.
Our Story

Grand Traverse Insulation Grew Out of Decades of Home Comfort Experience.

Grand Traverse Insulation was officially introduced in 2019, but the insulation and home performance work behind the name had already been part of GeoFurnace Heating & Cooling for years.

1990

GeoFurnace Begins

GeoFurnace Heating & Cooling begins serving Northern Michigan homeowners and building decades of experience in home comfort and energy performance.

2019

Insulation Becomes a Growing Focus

Insulation and home performance work becomes an increasingly important part of the services provided through GeoFurnace.

2019

Grand Traverse Insulation Is Launched

Grand Traverse Insulation is introduced as the dedicated identity for GeoFurnace's growing insulation and home performance division.

Today

A Dedicated Insulation Team

Grand Traverse Insulation serves Northern Michigan with insulation, air sealing, spray foam, crawl space encapsulation and home comfort solutions.

The Name Was New. The Experience Wasn't.

Grand Traverse Insulation gave an established part of the GeoFurnace business its own identity and a dedicated focus on insulation and building performance.

Experience That Goes Back to the Beginning of Grand Traverse Insulation.

Grand Traverse Insulation Department Lead

Jan Laucht has been part of the Grand Traverse Insulation story since the division was given its own identity in 2019.

Even at that time, Jan was already involved in the insulation and home performance work being done through GeoFurnace Heating & Cooling, including crawl space encapsulation and improving difficult areas of homes.

Today, Jan leads the Grand Traverse Insulation department and brings that hands-on experience to the way the team approaches insulation, air sealing, spray foam and crawl space projects throughout Northern Michigan.

The goal isn't to sell the same solution to every customer. It's to understand the building, identify the problem and recommend the work that makes sense.

Part of GeoFurnace Heating & Cooling

Local Roots. A New Chapter.

Grand Traverse Insulation is part of GeoFurnace Heating & Cooling, a Northern Michigan company whose history dates back to 1990.

GeoFurnace is owned by Nick Glenn, who purchased the company from longtime owners Rex Ambs and Jim Holstine. Grand Traverse Insulation continues its focus on practical insulation, air sealing, crawl space encapsulation and home performance work throughout the region.

Being part of a heating and cooling company also gives Grand Traverse Insulation a broader perspective on home comfort. Insulation, air leakage, moisture and HVAC performance can all interact, so evaluating the building as a system can lead to better decisions.

One Company. A Broader View of Home Comfort.

Grand Traverse Insulation focuses on the building envelope while GeoFurnace Heating & Cooling focuses on the systems that heat and cool the home.

How We Approach the Work

Understand the Building Before Recommending the Solution.

Grand Traverse Insulation does not start with a product. We start with what the homeowner or property owner is trying to solve.

01

Evaluate the Problem

Drafts, cold rooms, ice dams, moisture, high energy use or a new construction project all point us in different directions. The first step is understanding what you are trying to accomplish.

02

Evaluate the Conditions

We evaluate the areas of the building that may be contributing, including insulation coverage, air leakage, attic conditions, crawl spaces and the building envelope.

03

Recommend What Makes Sense

The answer may be spray foam, blown-in insulation, air sealing, crawl space encapsulation or a combination of improvements. The recommendation should fit the building, not the other way around.
